A Band of Horses Living Naturally!
Our band of horses consists of many different horse breeds. I like to say that we are non-denominational when it comes to breed preference. All horses are welcome here! We do our best to mimic the living environment our wild horses would encounter. The first consideration is to movement. Our horses live outside 24/7 and are free to choose who their best friends will be because they are all together. Most boarding facilities separate and choose for them. Under many circumstances in large facilities where horses may come and go often this is understandable. Shaking up the herd dynamics too often is very emotionally hard on horses. Every time a new horse is introduced to the present herd of horses, the pecking order needs to be re-established. This is why we do not accommodate short term boarding situations. (Unless in for training, where they would not be integrated with the rest of the herd during their short stay.) Amongst our herd of horses we have the old (30 years), the young (1 year old), mares and the geldings all living in harmony. The toughest problem I encountered was when a horse who lacked previous social skills (that can only be developed with a healthy upbringing with their own kind) had a more difficult time finding their place. But even that was resolved with enough time and patience by all the horses involved. Another pre-requisite for success is good health.
Welcome to Our Band of Horses

From the left is Atlas (9 yr. old Thoroughbred gelding, he had a tough time at first playing well with others!). In the middle (closest to the camera) is the one year old Hero (Quarter Horse gelding), the old wise one Candy (30 yr. old Paint Pony mare) and way in the back is Alberto (12 yr. old Paso Fino gelding)

From the left Little Bit (15 yr. old Standardbred mare), in the middle her Mom Sweet Pea (17 yrs old Standardbred mare) and on the right is Red (not sure of his age, he was a rescue but somewhere around 20, Quarterhorse gelding)

Brit, 22 yr. old Welsh Cob gelding

Cash, 18 yr. old Quarter Horse mare
And they all lived happily ever after!
