Bareback Pads

I have tried numerous bareback pads over the years and own 4 different kinds! There is nothing better than getting on a horse with just a pad to feel the closeness and discover the rhythm of a horse’s stride. I encourage all riders to spend more time doing this because it can increase your balance immensely.

In an effort to save others some money (I have already spent enough for all of us purchasing bareback pads!) hoping to find the perfect one. Finally the makers of the Barefoot Treeless Saddles perfected the design.

But first let me explain why. I thought in order to get a good quality bareback pad I would need to spend $300.00 and up since this seemed to be the common costs. I have two of them, both with suede on the seat which is awesome for grip but they are not anatomically correct for the horses. They are not grooved/cut to the back of a horse instead they are just straight which causes pressure points around the wither area and behind once the cinch is tightened up. I was always baffled wondering why no one considered this important part.

There is also very little in the way of padding in most which makes me want to add more to protect my horses spine and muscles. My search continued and now I can honestly say that Barefoot’s pad is the best I have encountered and the most reasonably priced too!

Here is how it works:

Most bareback pads can actually cause discomfort to the horse because the girth runs directly across the back and distributes all pressure onto one, maybe two areas.

The Ride-On-Pad has a v-girthing which distributes the pressure along the entire pad. We deliberately decided against stirrup attachments as standing in those would lead to pressure points on the horse.

The Ride-On-Pad is padded with high density foam in alternating thicknesses and is very stable on a horse’s back due to the Sympanova material on the underside. The upper side is made from microfiber which ensures good grip for the rider even at speed.

The girthing is stabilized by patches with real sheep wool on the underside so the girthing does not irritate the skin along the horse’s side.

3 D-rings provide attachments for saddle bags, and a security handle in the front is made from sturdy nylon. An English girth is required.

I also found that around the knee area because of the way it is padded it feels more secure like you have knee rolls built in. Very cool and so is the cost!
