My horse doesn't know how to eat apples!

My horse, Shi, was standing in the barn (it's an opened up wooden bin, gutted out and made fit for two horses as a walk in shelter) And I went out to catch her. I walked into the barn and she turned her haunches on me. I said ahhem (like clearing my thought) and she looked at me, hung her head down and turned to me with a sort of I'm sorry kind of look in her eyes lol. Then the other day I went to give her her first ever apple (I got her about a month ago) and her pasture mate bit it in halve then walked away. Shi then began to LICK the apple and kind of nibble it. She never did eat it, but I saw her go back to it several times after I left and lick it. Jinx (pasture mate) finally gobbled it up!
