Reiki Hand Positions on Horses

The first thing everyone needs to know is when it comes to reiki hand positions, there is no absolute “right” or “wrong”. Yet for guidance and a place to start I focus upon the seven major energy centers known as the “chakras”. Chakra is a Sanskrit word which means “wheel”. Chakra’s are like a spinning vortex of energy that all living creatures have. We also have powerful energy centers in the palm of each hand and on the sole of each foot.

So learning where these chakras are located and the corresponding colors helps the reiki hand positions to make sense and gives us a place to focus. All books on reiki will have this information and our Level One Reiki class covers this too.

Here is a quick review on Chakras

1.) Root Chakra – located at the base of the spine – color “red”

2.) Navel Chakra – located lower abdomen to navel area – color “orange”

3.) Solar Plexus Chakra – located above the navel below the chest – “yellow”

4.) Heart Chakra – centre of the chest – color “green” (or pink)

5.) Throat Chakra – throat area – color “sky blue”

6.) Third Eye or Brow Chakra – centre of the forehead – color “indigo blue”

7.) Crown Chakra – top of the head – color “violet”

On any animal if you follow the spine you will find all these chakras are located in pretty much the same place.

Reiki Hand Positions on Horses

Here are a few examples of where I would place my hands. If I was to do a full session on a horse typically I would follow all the chakras then go down the legs. But even this method is not cut in stone. From here I listen closely to my inner guidance system and follow where it takes me.

Plus I listen closely to the horse! I never tie them up so that they can move and show me where they would like the energy placed and they are free to leave if they decide that’s all they need. It’s amazing how they will shift their body and present you with the area they would like you to work with.
